Wednesday night long run..

After canceling our last 2 training sessions, finally the much awaited Wednesday arrived. Initially the plan was to run 9 hrs by me and Arun ji (I call him Bhaiya), But on tuesday another fellow runner Devinder also want to come for race and on race day Raj Singh ji(our youngest group member) came with his running apparel at work and wanted to participate in the trainning session.

Bhaiya, Devinder and Raj ji worked nearby so they planned to come to Bij Vasan train station and from there Its mine duty to pick them up (on mine bike :)). On the way to pick them from train station i drop mine cell phone in Bij Vasan village, but i was very lucky to find it back when i see a little boy picked it from ground and put in his pocket. I took this thing positively that today is mine day(as getting back a lost cell phone is a rare event on that busy road). I got call from bhaiya that there were already at train station and before ending the call i reached the spot.

We bought some fruits for our night run and then we were off to mine(on my poor motor-bike). Bhaiya prepared electrol-water and Rahul (mine Room-mate) helped us all to take the stuff to our running site. We had marked a 1 km stretch on a lonely road and our long runs are running to and fro on that marked road only.

Finally its 8:40pm and we were all set for our night run, plan was to run till 5:40 am. This is the first time Bhaiya asked us to run at your own speed from the beginning. We all started together and Bhaiya had taken lead in first 200mts but we three ran together. Plan in mine mind was to run first 10km on mine easy run pace and then run with 4-1 strategy (4kms run and 1km walk). So I took mine first walk after finishing 14 km, Raj ji and Devinder joined me and there only i told them mine startegy. Every thing was going on good until in our 18km-19km running round Devinder says enough, he was suffering from severe pain in his hips. We didn't(Me and Raj ji ) stop for him. As bhaiya is running on his own, me and Raj ji were running at same speed to stay together and motivate each other. After a while we changed our strategy to 2-1 strategy. Its round number 30 if i remember correctly when Raj ji decided to stop. So by midnight with two wickets down only me and Arun bhaiya were on track. I was struggling with mine running-walking more frequently and all mine strategies went haywire. Earlier I planned to complete 42 kms in 5hrs but i was able to manage 39 only. At that time i wanted to stop running but bhaiya told me to finish 6hrs run and do 47kms. I tried hard but i was able to finish 46kms only in 5hrs 58 mins. I did mine last one km(47th round) walking and end up with 6hrs 11min for 47km.

I have nothing to feel happy except that extra km i did, mine previous best was 46kms in 5:59 mins. We all stayed at mine place together for some time and then back to our routine jobs....
It was a night with a big half-moon. I enjoyed company of Devinder, Raj ji and Bhaiya.

My Running history

Actually I don't remember when i started long distance running, there were days when i used to run for 15 mins (around 4-5 years back) just for refreshing myself and that too on road in our society only (D-6 Vasant Kunj). Sometime my roomie Arun Joshi join with me for running, I used to run either in morning or evening and that too not always. But I remember Joshi telling me tales of Shakti Kapoor, Anil Ambani and few other amateur runners, those words from him always encouraged me to run.

And I remember those days, when we have parties and i used to go for a 15-20 min run before that, everybody says u r crazy but its only Joshi who never discourage me.
These short runnings of mine goes on and off for another year or so, then Joshi and Sandhu got married and Joshi went to Hyderabad. I felt alone, i started running for 50-60 mins regularly and now I start liking it, for me missing a run is like missing something important.

March 2005: I left Amsoft Systems joined Alcatel development India, I never thought of increasing the distance, for me 10k is fine and i keep on doing mine same distance until Shailendra (My team leader) inspired me to run a marathon. I start looking for marathons, and i increase mine distance from 10 to 12-14k and started cycling as well.

In another few days I found Hutch announced their first ever half marathon in delhi, It seems they did this just for me. I registered there and run mine first half marathon(october 2005) in 2hrs 8min without much effort. then I run Mumbai half (jan 2006) in 1hrs 55min, delhi international half marathon(feb 2006) in 1hr 50min. After races i started following mine regular routine of 10k daily and sometime 21K on weekend. But In 2006 I completed mine hutch half in 2hrs 4min far below mine best, may be because of not running fit at the time of race.

24K is my max limit until i met another Arun in mine life, and this time its ARUN BHARDWAJ only ultra runner who has represented our country in many ultra running competition. He stays very near to mine place, I know GOD has sent him to help me only. He is the one who told me that there is no maximum limit to running. He is the one who encouraged me to start this blog. I enjoyed running and discussions with Bhaiyya (Arun Bhardwaj), but I still miss other Arun (Arun Joshi) he is in Japan these days with his wife(Seema bhabhi) and little Anika.
